In my free time, I enjoy exploring capabilities with new technologies seeking new applications or solving a particular problem. I value hackathons as an excellent opportunity to experiment intensely with something new while getting your head around a problem and ultimately a solution. Therefore, I’m happy that Europe’s biggest hackathon, HackZurich, is annually hosted in my proximity.

In 2017 I didn’t have a team when I signed up for the competition, but I felt a strong drive to match up with other hackers and collaborate on a project. After message exchange in the event Slack, I managed to meet a group of people that later became my hacker buddies for the next challenges.

Before the event, we met as a group in a coffee place in Zurich and discussed potential projects for the weekend. Plans we later changed utterly. After a very intense time of hacking our way through software and hardware, we have built a prototype of FoodAfine, an AI-powered kitchen device helping reduce food waste.

We won an IoT sponsor challenge, provided by one of the lead sponsors.
